The review
Maha's turned Egyptian home cooking into a brunch service, which sounds like a compromise and is not one. The food is what the family eats; the timing is the only concession to the neighbourhood.
The Traditional plate — ful, falafel, eggs, salad — is the correct order and the fullest expression of the kitchen. The halawa French toast is the other one, sweet with sesame halva, and it will not be shared no matter what anyone says at the table. Shakshuka is the safe order and it is still very good.
Honest notes: the queue is real and forms in any weather, there are no reservations, and it is closed at the start of the week. Come at opening or come at 2pm.
