Charcoal, chaos and the best value table on Gerrard Street
Lahore Tikka House has been the anchor of Gerrard Street's Little India for decades, and it still cooks over real charcoal, which is the whole reason to come. On a summer night the patio is the loudest and best-value dinner in the east end.
Start with seekh kebab — smoky, loose, faintly charred — and then a chicken karahi for the table, cooked hard with tomato and ginger. Garlic naan comes out of the tandoor fast and you will want double what you ordered.
Honest notes: service at peak is chaotic and getting the attention of a server takes commitment. The room is functional and loud. Bring six people, order too much, and it still costs less than dinner for two elsewhere.
Off the charcoal, smoky and loose-textured. The order to start with.
Cooked hard in the wok with tomato and ginger. For the table.
Out of the tandoor and onto the table within a minute. Order more than you need.
Seekh kebab, chicken karahi, twice the naan. Bring a big group.
