The review

You can hear a good kottu shop before you reach the door — the metal blades chopping roti on the griddle in a rhythm that is half cooking and half advertising. Hopper Hut is one of those.

Start with an egg hopper: fermented rice batter cooked in a small bowl-shaped pan, crisp at the rim, soft in the centre, with an egg set in the base. Chicken kottu roti is the main event and it is properly hot. Devilled chicken is sweet, sour and aggressive, and is not really a starter no matter where the menu puts it.

Honest notes: the room is bare, seating is limited, and hoppers take real time when it is busy. Order ahead, take it home, and it costs almost nothing.
